Back to school!

I’m a little slow with my back to school stuff, I admit. We only just started on September 6 though, so I’m only a week off!

This year we started at a brand new school. All summer we watched it being built and wondered every time we drove by if it would be ready on time! It was, thankfully. In fact it was a lot more complete than a lot of schools are in our board when they are opened, or so I’m told by those “in the know” anyway. Our school is state of the art, complete with a roof made entirely of solar panels, enough to power the entire building.

My two older kids couldn’t wait to get back to school and my little one is super jealous. She wails every time I drop them off. She wants to go too. Poor kid. :-( I’m hoping that she can join the Pre-School in January so that she doesn’t feel so left out. Right now, she’s a bit too young. Despite this small hiccup, it was good to get back into the routine again. My kids enjoy school and thrive on structure and routine. Summer is a lot of fun, but they also miss school during that time.

Here are two school themed layouts I did of my son’s school photos from last year. The paper is by Studio Calico, Elementary Collection. If you are interested in this paper, you can win it this month by participating in challenges at Inspired To Scrap, where I am a design team member, www.inspiredtoscrap.net.

I’m so behind on my scrapbooking!

One day I will be all caught up and I will be able to scrap whatever I want without feeling guilty about all the life events that I haven’t created pages for yet. Today, I can finally cross off my son’s first birthday from the list! … He’s three now, so I only have two more birthdays (of his anyway) to scrap, and I’ll be all caught up on birthdays! My youngest is only 1, and I have managed to scrap a layout for her first birthday. My oldest daughter has the scrapbook that’s the most behind. I started when she was three – so I started off already three years behind, and it just seems to get worse and worse! Someday, I will get there. I’m sure that most people, who don’t have endless amounts of free time are in the same boat.

Anyway, here is the layout. I combined many different products into this one. It’s a complete mish-mash of materials. Most of the papers came from a Noel Mignon Kit called ‘Jump and Jive’, some are from my own stash of papers and embellishments. I really wanted a wild-looking layout to go with my cake-covered mess of a son. He really enjoyed that cake! Let me tell you! The bear cake pan has become a tradition for one-year birthdays at my house. I have made this same cake three times, for all three kids. It’s about the size of two cupcakes. I usually make a plain cake and top it with butter cream icing that I make myself (really easy – I never use canned, it just doesn’t taste as good). My two older children devoured their cakes and basically ‘wore’ them! It was bath time afterwards for sure. My youngest daughter wasn’t very interested. She took a few nibbles and then tossed it on the floor! I hope to carry on this tradition and use the pan to make my grandchildren’s first birthday cakes.
