Farewell Google Friend Connect and a Scrapbook Queens Reveal

I’m very bummed that Google has decided to retire Google Friend Connect for all non-blogger Blogs. I’m not on Blogger, and won’t ever make the switch. My Blog is a self-hosted WordPress. org custom Blog designed and developed by yours truly. I’m a Web Developer/Project Manager/Designer and as such, I have to “walk the walk” and host, develop and design my own Blog. Retiring Google Friend Connect is Google’s way of trying to force everyone into using Blogger, and part of their push to overtake Facebook for the top slot in the realm of Social Media with Google +1.

That being said, I don’t want to lose any of my valuable followers (that means YOU!!!!). If you are following me on your Blogger administration panel, you will no longer be able to get my posts and updates there. To continue to follow me, please use the RSS Feed icon and follow by your favourite reader, or subscribe to email updates of my blog by entering in your email address in my email subscription form on the right sidebar (don’t worry, your email address is safe with me!). Alternatively, you can also follow any Blog, including mine, through Networked Blogs (see my right sidebar). This widget works through Facebook, so you would be able to read my posts through Facebook or on the Networked Blogs site. I hope that you will choose to get updates in one of these ways. You are so important to me! What is a Blog without readers?

Sigh… out with business, in with some fun stuff! Since it’s the end of the month now, I’m able to share my creations for Scrapbook Queens. This month, I worked with Echo Park’s Life is Good Collection. I love all the pinks, browns, blues, yellows and greens together. This is one of my favourite palettes to work with. Here’s what I created…

My two daughters look so much alike at this stage, you would think that these pictures are of the same person! They’re not, the top one is of my older daughter, now 7. The bottom layout is of my youngest, she’s just turned 2.

I love to Read

Here is a close up of the cluster of embellishments. You can see that I added some dimensional paint by Viva Decor to the brown cardstock frame and to the flowers. I also added some pink chalk by Studio G to the brown cardstock frame to give it a bit more interest.

Here is my complete list of supplies:

  • Echo Park Life is Good papers, stickers and alphabet stickers
  • Viva Decor Pearl pen (paint) in Cream
  • Maya Road kraft doily
  • pink own button by Purple Pumpkin
  • Font, LD Gregarious
  • White corrugated alphabet by Jillibean Soup
  • Brown epoxy alphabet by Thickers, American Crafts
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Silhouette book cut file by Hero Arts
  • Adhesives by Scrapbook Adhesives, Beacon and Scotch

I also created this cute little ‘Welcome Home’ card. I used Bazzill Basics paper and stickers, papers by Echo Park. The twine is by The Twinery. I used foam tape by Scrapbook Adhesives as well.

I have already posted this layout, but here it is again so that you can see the ‘whole set’ together.

Altered Photo Frame and a Scrapbook Queens Sneak

Hi everyone! Thanks for dropping by. I just wanted to share this altered photo frame that I made for Valentine’s Day. I have no idea who I’m going to give it to, because it’s way too girly for most of the people in my life! LOL! It just sort of evolved into something VERY feminine. I hope you like it. I used LilyBee’s Head Over Heels Collection, which I recently got in a kit from My Scrapbook Nook, and a $1 photo frame from Michaels. Regrettably, the kit is now sold out, so you can’t get it anymore.

I cut out these flowers from a Silhouette America cut file using my Silhouette Cameo. I love my Cameo!

The dressform is from Kaisercraft. It’s available at Scrapbook Queens in a set of 3. I’m looking forward to using the other 2. The ‘Love’ metal charm came from a kit that I got from my friend, Sherri Funk! If you’re looking for more inspiration, definitely drop by Sherri’s Blog.

I have been working with my kit from Scrapbook Queens. It features papers from Echo Park’s For The Record collection and Pebbles Tree House Collection. Here is a sneak of my first project! I’m going to reveal all my projects at The Scrapbook Queens crop on January 21. This crop is sold out, but if you are interested, you should give the store a call and get yourself on the waiting list, or you could sign up for February’s crop! Their number is 905-542-8811.

A card and Some Happy News

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share this card that I made using one of Pretty Little Studio’s digital vintage cutouts.  If you are not familiar with Pretty Little Studio, they are a scrapbooking paper manufacturer specializing in vintage style elements. They have lovely paper and embellishments available. Their prices are very reasonable and you won’t be disappointed with the quality of their products.

I found the image of the little girl walking her duck in the rain on their Web site and immediately knew what I wanted to do with it! I printed out the image on my home printer and then fussy cut it out. The duck was on a leash in the image, but I decided to remove that part of it and replace it with a piece of twine instead. To add depth to the image, I applied clear ink and then clear embossing powder and heat embossed it. This gave it a lot of dimention.  To give it and even more lifelike feel, I applied it to my card base with 3D Dots by EK Success. I made ‘grass’ by layering 4 pieces of Pink Paislee tissue paper and then cut it into tiny strips. It’s secured to the card with a very small amount of glue and machine stitching.

I created the card background with various inks and mists and I applied some ‘rain drops’ with Smooch Ink. The clouds were die cut with my Silhouette Cameo and then dry embossed with a Tim Holtz embossing folder. I inked the edges of the clouds to make them look a little bit more ‘rainy’ with a dark blue ink. The tiny flowers are by Maya Road and the alphabet stickers are by Sassafras and Basic Grey.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

…Now, on to my happy news! I’m pleased to announce that I have accepted a position on the Scrapbook Queens Design Team! I’m very excited about this, and even more excited about the possibility of teaching opportunities at The Scrapbook Queens studio in Mississauga, Ontario (that’s in Canada, for my International friends!). Stay tuned for DT sneaks, reveals, news about the store, classes and crops there.

Win some October Afternoon Farmhouse at The Paper Variety!

Happy New Year !Time to ring in the new year with a new challenge {and new format!} at The Paper Variety! We hope you’ll join us in our 2012 resolutions to create more :)

Our first January challenge is a color challenge!

That’s right, black and white with a *kiss* of color! Your project should be mostly black and white; with just a “pop” of a third color. Our prize for this challenge is the “Farmhouse” collection by October Afternoon!

Find out more, and enter the challenge over at The Paper Variety! I’m looking forward to seeing what you create!

I really loved this Black & White challenge! Here’s what I created. I just picked up Lily Bee’s Head Over Heels Collection through My Scrapbook Nook’s January Kit and it was so appropriate for a black and white theme! I also used papers by Crate Paper and Pretty Little Studio. To add to the black and white with a splash of colour theme, I edited my photos to black and white, but I left my daughter’s red outfit and her striking blue eyes in colour. Her eyes are so striking as it is, but with this type of treatment, they really stand out! The papers from Pretty Little Studio are digital papers that I downloaded from their Website and printed at home – super convenient!

Love Never Fails

I stamped my red heart with red paint and a foam stamp by Donna Downey on a transparency, and I added it to the layout on the reverse (unstamped side) where the colour was more consistent. I added a bling flourish by Prima on top and wrapped some black twine by May Arts around the heart. I also used Maraschino twine by The Twinery, white ribbon with bling by Harmonie and black and white striped ribbon by My Mind’s Eye. The ribbon slider is from my local scrapbooking store, Scrapbook Queens.

For my journalling, I incorporated the strip from the bottom of the paper into my sentence. The background paper is called “Smitten” from the “Head Over Heels” line, and that became part of my sentence. The rest of the sentence is made up of stickers by Glitz and Basic Grey.

I really love how this one turned out. Thanks for letting me share it with you!
