Win some October Afternoon Farmhouse at The Paper Variety!

Happy New Year !Time to ring in the new year with a new challenge {and new format!} at The Paper Variety! We hope you’ll join us in our 2012 resolutions to create more :)

Our first January challenge is a color challenge!

That’s right, black and white with a *kiss* of color! Your project should be mostly black and white; with just a “pop” of a third color. Our prize for this challenge is the “Farmhouse” collection by October Afternoon!

Find out more, and enter the challenge over at The Paper Variety! I’m looking forward to seeing what you create!

I really loved this Black & White challenge! Here’s what I created. I just picked up Lily Bee’s Head Over Heels Collection through My Scrapbook Nook’s January Kit and it was so appropriate for a black and white theme! I also used papers by Crate Paper and Pretty Little Studio. To add to the black and white with a splash of colour theme, I edited my photos to black and white, but I left my daughter’s red outfit and her striking blue eyes in colour. Her eyes are so striking as it is, but with this type of treatment, they really stand out! The papers from Pretty Little Studio are digital papers that I downloaded from their Website and printed at home – super convenient!

Love Never Fails

I stamped my red heart with red paint and a foam stamp by Donna Downey on a transparency, and I added it to the layout on the reverse (unstamped side) where the colour was more consistent. I added a bling flourish by Prima on top and wrapped some black twine by May Arts around the heart. I also used Maraschino twine by The Twinery, white ribbon with bling by Harmonie and black and white striped ribbon by My Mind’s Eye. The ribbon slider is from my local scrapbooking store, Scrapbook Queens.

For my journalling, I incorporated the strip from the bottom of the paper into my sentence. The background paper is called “Smitten” from the “Head Over Heels” line, and that became part of my sentence. The rest of the sentence is made up of stickers by Glitz and Basic Grey.

My Top 11 of 2011

I love that everyone is posting their favourite layouts and projects of the year. It’s a great way to showcase your work and I love seeing everyone’s best work in one post. So, here are my favourites of 2011:

  1. KaiserCraft Advent Calendar with Echo Park’s Season’s Greetings Collection and Graphic 45′s Christmas Past. I was featured on the Echo Park Blog for this one as a Friday Facebook winner.

    Advent Calendar

  2. This next one appeared on the Crate Paper Blog for the Crate Everyday Challenge as an honourable mention in November.

    Thankful-for-time-together

  3. I love the colours in this one and it’s ecclectic feel. It’s very rare for me to actually like a picture of myself – I like this one

.3 Girls - GCD Studios, Sassafras and Glitz

  4. This one was in the top 10 in the August 2011 Sassafras Lass Challenge. I like it because it’s very unique and colourful.

    Toronto Island Far Enough Farm

  5. I love these pictures of Rachel and they coordinated so well with Sassafras Lass’s Cherry Delicious line.

    You are so Stylish

  6. This one is brand new and hasn’t been on my Blog before, but it had to make my top ten. I love how it turned out. I used Lily Bee and Pretty Little Studio papers.  The Bling is from Scrapbook Queens and the Lily Bee papers are from the January My Scrapbook Nook kit.

    Love Never Fails

  7. This one took a ridiculous amount of time to create with all the fussy cutting, but I think it was worth it in the end.

    cousins scrapbook page, Basic Grey

  8. When I first saw this Cosmo Cricket paper, I knew that I had to have it. I love the multicolour splash!

    Feeding the Dolphins

  9. This one is also brand new, in fact I just posted it. I love the Crate Paper Peppermint line and this picture of Rachel is priceless!

    Naughty or Nice?

  10. This one won the GCD Studios August 2011 Challenge. I love this picture of Alison. She is such a ham!

    Welcome To My Ocean

  11. This is my favourite card of the year. It’s 100% My Mind’s Eye from the October My Scrapbook Nook kit.

I love spending every day with you

Naughty or Nice?

I created this layout yesterday using My Scrapbook Nook’s December Kit, featuring Crate Paper’s Peppermint Collection. I just love this paper. I love the vintage feel of it, the colours, the way it coordinates – everything! I also used vintage digital Santa tags from Pretty Little Studio. I have just discovered them and I can’t wait to put in an order for their traditional papers. I occasionally dabble in hybrid scrapbooking, but I’m willing to bet that their printer is better than mine! I’m in love with the image of Santa on the phone!

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the picture frame and I accented it with a Pearl Pen by Viva Decor (puffy iridescent paint). I also misted my background paper a bit with Studio Calico’s Mr. Huey mist in white with a Crafter’s Workshop mask. I’m currently smitten with my snowflake Crafter’s Workshop mask. I have used it on a few layouts and cards so far and I’m still not tired of it. I used one Elle’s Studio tag as well – this is another one of my go-to embellishments this year. I love Elle’s stuff. You might notice that I printed directly on my Elle’s Studio tag, look for my tutorial on that this month at The Paper Variety. Last, but not least — twine by The Twinery. I’m going through this stuff so quickly lately you would think that I’m eating it!

Enough rambling on… here’s my layout!

Here is more of the mini book that I was in a tizzy to finish for my husband’s Grandmother before Christmas. I got it done in time and she loved it! She told me that she is going to try to live as long as possible in order to receive a new mini book every year at Christmas! Funny, because these mini books are taking years off of my life! LOL!

I’m currently working on this Prima canvas mini book that I got from  my local scrapbooking store, Scrapbook Queens. It is a Christmas gift for my husband’s Grandmother, and I am frantically trying to get it done as soon as humanly possible.

I stamped and misted the cover with black StazOn ink and Shimmerz mist. The butterflies were stenciled on with tinted modelling paste. When they were dry, I added more interest to them by adding Perfect Pearls and Crackle Accents on top. The flowers are from Michael’s from their Recollections line. The blue one started out being cream coloured, and I sprayed it with blue Shimmerz mist. The bling is by Prima and the ribbon is by Martha Stewart.
