A Sketch with Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer
I created this sketch in Adobe Photoshop with the idea that I would create with two funny images from two summers ago. My husband built one of those giant play structures in our backyard on a scorching hot weekend. We don’t have a pool (no room for one because of the play structure, plus they cost a fortune), so my husband decided to get in the baby pool with his clothes on and a beer in hand to cool off. He’s a goof that way, anything for a laugh. I had my daughter get in the pool with him, hold my beer and pretend to drink it (don’t worry, I’m not really giving beer to minors, just hard liquor! KIDDING!!!).
I liked the idea of incorporating my title into a pennant banner, and as always, I planned to use a lot of layering. You are welcome to use my sketch if the mood strikes you. If you do choose to use it, I would love to see what you create – don’t be shy!
Here’s the result of my sketch. I used Simple Stories 100 Days of Summer. I deviated a little bit from my original plan and added a sunburst in the background, which I cut with my Silhouette Cameo. I also created my title in two tiers, half of it using a simple stories pennant cut out of their paper and the other half is American Crafts Thickers. I machine stitched through the Thickers for two reasons, 1. I love the look and 2. sometimes Thickers need a little bit of extra help to stay put. Other supplies include twine from the Twinery, a brad from Basic Grey, ribbon from May Arts, stickers from Little Yellow Bicycle, a Sassafras die cut, buttons and pearls from Prima and my new secret weapon, my Epiphany Crafts star tool. You can create epoxy embellishments yourself out of any patterned paper. There’s something really satisfying about lining up the image in the punch window and creating a perfectly custom embellishment in about 2 seconds flat. I love this thing. I must get MORE!
Thanks for dropping by! I hope that you enjoyed my creations today.
